My Background

I am an author, psychotherapist, consultant and mother of three children. Before training as a psychotherapist, I spent 15 years working in the theatre and film industries. Through this experience, I developed a strong sense of empathy, openness, and creativity. My years in the creative arts was a schooling in the ways people express their emotions and define themselves. It was an in depth exploration of the patterns that play out across the collective experience of being human. I also became adept at homing in on and helping people articulate what they want and need. The working with them to fulfill those wants and needs.

I have always wanted to be of service, to help people tell their stories, and to share in the exploration of ways in which others experience life. As a therapist, my lifelong passion for hearing peoples’ stories was married with my desire to help people find more peace, meaning, and reflect on their innermost thoughts, feelings, and potentials.

I received my Bachelor of Arts Degree from Trinity College in Theater and Dance and my Masters Degree from Pacifica Graduate Institute in Counseling Psychology.

My Approach

Often in life we find it difficult to create positive change. Sometimes we develop deep patterns of behaving, relating, and reacting that may become so automatic we  lose sense of what makes us happy and fulfilled. As a psychotherapist, I work with clients to help build awareness and increase understanding around why they engage in relationships, work, and life the way they do as a step toward creating change.

I believe in the positive effects of exploring the connection between the mind and body. We may grow unaware of what we are actually sensing and feeling. Working with both the mind and the body can help clients recognize, tolerate, and get grounded in their sensations. This will not only help clients better understand what they are experiencing but will also help to build a deeper connection to the positive feelings and experiences in their life.

Through a holistic approach that includes a creative exploration of the client’s life experience, building an awareness of present mindfulness, reconnecting to the cues the body gives, and reinforcing positive experiences I help clients tap into undiscovered potential, create change, and work through a myriad of issues.

These issues range from depression and anxiety to questions about where to go next in career and, “Why do I keep dating the same kind of wrong person?” Clients come to me to work through trauma, eating disorders and substance abuse, low self-esteem, loss of meaning in life, and relationship issues.

I work with all types of clients.  I frequently work with individuals struggling with anxiety and the variety of ways it manifests.

I have specialized training in psychodynamic theory, interperonsal neurobiology, somatic experience, dream work, Jungian theory and mindfulness.
